♪ Hey, Alan… Welcome to Curious Business. I’m your host,

behind the scenes of some of the most unique

sunny Orlando, Florida, the magical home

world I can’t name. But at the heart of Orlando
is an unusual business run by two amazing people
that have made it their mission to design and
sell high-end shoes based on our favourite desserts. So, join me as I visit the
Shoe Bakery and try to stop myself from passing
a pair of size 12s through my digestive tract. ♪ – Chris?
– Alan. – Yeah.
– How you doing? – Nice to meet you.
– Nice to meet you. – Welcome to Shoe Bakery.
– Oh, thanks for having me. See, it’s called Shoe Bakery.
I see a lot of baked goods, but I don’t really smell
anything; what’s going on? There’s no real
food here, man. (laughs) Everything we do is,
we hand make and it’s made to look like
cake and ice cream. Some people are
wearing these on a night on the town,
going out… – They’re going out.
– They’re baked, ah, you know? Yeah, baked goods. Yeah, you know, different
things are in style so, we love the fact of fashion
and food going together, so we decided to kind of
make a business out of it. – Hi, Alan.
– Alan, this is Aiesha. – This is my wife.
– Nice to meet you. – Yeah, hi.
– Hi, Alan. I forgot to introduce
her earlier. (laughs) I’m more so the
organizer of Shoe Bakery. I kind of take all his ideas and
make it, you know, streamlined. She boxes ’em up in
her pretty little boxes. – Right.
– (laughs) So it’s not crazy. Do you like oversee and
give him some hints on what he needs to do
and some things that maybe you think that
he should add to the shoe? I do. When it comes to–
’cause you know, it’s all like ladies’ stuff, so
it’s like, I have to give him, you know,
little tips on, okay, this is gonna be nice
for the ladies. This colour
maybe not so much. But yeah, I like to,
you know, give him some
advice on that. ♪ Did you guys have a
baking background? How did you guys
envision this and see this? Take me through the
process of like making shoes that look like baked goods. – Right.
– Right. Around 2008, I was in
a business customizing sneakers. I actually quit that,
that business, and wanted to kind of focus
on something else that was similar and gave me
more creative freedom, so I decided to do
ladies shoes. So, I decided, hey,
why not focus on something everybody, you know,
knows, which is pastries. From that point, we started
to do mostly wedding orders. – Mhm.
– Yeah. So I like the beauty about
like the fact that like all these shoes are
customizable and you can do different
flavours and layers. We do have a vast array of
different types of flats. They’re all scented. (sniffs & laughs) What do you think?
Vanilla, right? – Yeah!
– Pretty spot on, huh? I want to lick these shoes,
I’m not gonna lie. Yeah, I told you,
these are pretty crazy. (laughs) Next, we have the heels
and these are actually custom designed, so you
can design these online. Can you talk about like the
exposure and like, you know, who’s worn these or like what’s
happened from all this? Our biggest celebrity was
actually Whoopi Goldberg. She wore it –
one of our cake wedges – she wore it on The View
’cause it was her birthday. So, yeah, it was like,
it was perfect. So, I’m extremely curious
on how these shoes are made. Is it possible that you

of your sales come from, people are going online and like
designing their own shoe? ‘Cause this, once again,
this is fun to do. It’s pretty brand new and,
most of the sales are still, you know, where people

of the custom is pretty much picking up steam. Alright, so I finished my shoe.
I added it to cart. – I paid for it.
– It looks good, looks good. So, what’s the next process? We’ll have your shoe
ready in a couple weeks. Okay, can I sneak to the
front of that line ’cause I’m like…
(laughs) We’ll see what we can do. Yeah, yeah, ’cause
I do know Whoopi. I’m just saying,
